Recorded in Prague in Nov. 2002, it features trumpeter extraordinaire Marek Zvolanek with the New Prague Collegium under the direction of Jaroslav Krcek. According to executive producer Paul Vlcek, this recording deliberately set out to foreground the trumpet, something of a departure from conventional practice for such works. "Zvolanek is known and famous throughout Europe for his absolutely pitch-perfect intonation," points out Vlcek, "and he shows it off beautifully on these recordings." An added bonus with this CD are the highly informative liner notes contributed by Michael Gale, which shed considerable light on the historical context of these four pieces, the history of the trumpet itself, and the four composers.
